What to Know About NDIS

NDIS stands for the National Disability Insurance Scheme that is used to support people with disabilities. This is done by creating support packaged depending on the special requirements of each individual. NDIS is implemented by the National Disability Insurance Agency. This scheme has been created to optimise how people with disability are able to access the support they need to live. It aims at improving the quality of their life by giving them access to support services.

There are many people in the country that have disabilities that prevent them from carrying out daily activities. And NDIS providers such as Smile Care Community Provider look at the disability supports that the individual needs and how this can be provided to them. Through this, people who are disabled are able to gain more freedom in their daily life and become a part of the community. Their health and wellbeing can be improved and they will be able to access education and employment more easily. A disabled person will be able to work with their NDIS provider to decide when and where the specified support will be provided and how it will be provided for them. This helps to create a customised NDIS plan for each person. It is very important to provide this support early on so that the impact of the disability on your life is much reduced.

It is not just physical disabilities that are considered. Those living with psychosocial disabilities are also eligible to access support through this scheme. There are mental health issues that people are living with that can impair their permanent function. There are certain requirements that are there to specify your eligibility to access the NDIS. You need to have a permanent and significant disability that gets in the way of daily life. There is also an age limit to when you can enter the scheme. You have to be below 65 years of age. The status of your residency is also considered. You will be eligible if you are an Australian or New Zealand citizen who has a Protected Special Category Visa or if you are a permanent resident of Australia.

You will also need to live in an NDIS area. There is a website that you can access to get more information about the scheme and how you can benefit from it. The NDIA will work with you and your family to identify the supports you need and to create a plan that will help you achieve your goals in life. There will be interviews and discussions in the beginning so that they are better able to understand what you are looking for as life goals and what your essential needs are. And the NDIS plan will change over time as your needs will change. To receive the funds, the supports provided have to be related to your disability and they should be beneficial for you. It will not cover living costs that are not related to your disability. Some examples of supports that are funded under this scheme are transport, personal care, mobility equipment and assistance with finding the right employment.
