Basic Things You Should Know About Keto Diet

Keto or ketogenic diet is not just some dieting fad to help you lose weight. Yes, there is that outcome but one of the most important reason why people are opting for a keto diet is because of its health benefits. But before you start thinking about whether a keto diet is what your body needs, arm yourself with basic information about keto.

There are numerous benefits to keto diet

The main idea to keto is that the caloric intake our body needs is achieved by eating a lot of healthy fats, protein and less carbohydrates, which is why one of the intended results is weight loss. This diet is recommended for those people whose weight is causing them or putting them at risk with diseases associated to immense weight gain such as heart diseases and or diabetes.

People with epilepsy and are experiencing frequent seizures are also recommended a ketogenic diet and those with PCOS or Polycystic ovary syndrome. If you have the mentioned conditions, seek the professional opinion of your medical doctor before you try and look for keto friendly bread and wraps. Of course, the diet would also work more efficiently if you would still take the recommended medicine and proper exercise.

There are also side effects

The reason why you should ask your doctor first if they would recommend keto diet to you is that the diet also has side effects ranging from mild to adverse. Some of the side effects include constipation, upset stomach, dizziness, low energy rate, low blood pressure, nutrient deficiency to a more severe eating disorder or increased risk of heart disease. Not only are the side effects physical, a strict keto diet could also affect you mentally since you would feel isolated and left out from gatherings and festivities.

Keto diet has an expiration date

Since one of the possible side effects to keto diet is nutrient deficiency, this diet is only recommended for three to six months max since it is not possible for our body to survive longer than that without the required nutrients. Dietitians recommend that we should choose to cycle in and out of keto diet in a year instead of doing it for the whole year.

Keto could make your hangovers worst

Drinking alcohol is still allowed while you are on a keto diet provided you only consume wine since it is more keto friendly than beer. The alcohol would not stop your progress although it would definitely slow down ketosis. And if you do drink wine while on this diet, you are more likely to get inebriated quickly and be prepared though for a more intense hangover the next day. Once drunk, it would also be easier for you to get swayed into eating non keto snacks and appetizers that goes well with whatever alcoholic beverage you are consuming.

Have a more in-depth conversation with your doctor first about keto since you would read opposing advices about this diet in the internet. Besides, your doctor knows your body and health conditions than anyone else.
